2011 Scion FR-S Concept Latest Edition, Review, Specs and Images

Exterior and Interior

The concept on display at the New York Auto Show is shown in a bright Code Red exterior paint and displays the profile inspired by the Toyota 2000GT. The hoodline dips low and then opens up at the vehicle’s wide mouth and angular headlights featuring bright LED clusters. Overall, the sharp lines of the concept reveal a clean design and not at all what we expected when we heard Toyota was giving this prized piece over to Scion.
As low as the front dips, the back of the car perks up like it is being ready to be kissed. The extensive lower treatments add a certain amount of get-down-and-dirty as it frames the dual exhaust pipes. Further funk is illustrated by the sharp taillights with LED lights and that unmistakable "SCION" logo.
The final touch is made by a new set of massive monoblock Five Axis wheels, size 20x8.5-inch front and 20x10.5-inch at the rear. The wheels are combined with four-piston-caliper front brakes and 18-inch annular carbon ceramic matrix rotors attached to the wheels à la motorcycle style.

Engine

Under the hood, Scion has placed the same 2.0-liter front boxer engine combined with a rear-wheel drive system. This engine is set up lower and further back to provide a lower center of gravity. This 2.0L Boxer engine is the first boxer to incorporate Toyota’s D4-S injection system, an addition that results in both direct and port injection. All this means is that the FR-S will get increased horsepower and torque without having to deal with the loss of fuel efficiency, a big plus when dealing with these mounting gas prices.
The engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

When Can I Buy One?

As Scion announced at the New York Auto Show, a production version will follow next year. Expect to pay around $25K for Scion’s interpretation of the FT-86, which matches what Toyota’s version is rumored to cost.

Competition

The future Scion FR-S will surely have competitors on the market, namely Subaru’s interpretation of the Toyobaru project. While both models will share the same boxer engine, Subaru’s will also have an STI version powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4 engine with an output of about 300 HP.
Models like the Nissan 370Z will also cater to some competition as the production version of the Scion figures to aim itself in that direction as well. The 370Z gets a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. It is on sale with a starting price of $30K. All that aside, if the FR-S production version looks anything like the concept, then faithful Nissan customers may have good reason to look elsewhere.

2011 Honda CR-Z Mugen Review and Pictires

The hybrid craze has gone to new levels and everyone wants in on the action. Unlucky for those that are late in joining the game, Mugen has come around with yet another version of the Honda CRZ, promising to transform the vehicle into one "hot hybrid hatch." Their newest package comes with a killer supercharger that takes the CRZ to a greater level of performance, and possibly a better fuel economy as well.
The Honda CRZ Mugen will still come with its standard 1.5L four cylinder engine, but will get the boost in power from a new supercharger. Standard outputs for the CRZ come in at 113 HP and 107 lb-ft of torque for just the engine, while adding the standard hybrid package will get those outputs up to 122 HP and 128 lb-ft of torque. Mugen has taken their upgrade a step further by developing their own electronic package that, together with the supercharged engine, will deliver a total of 197 HP and 181 lb-ft of torque. Just like there’s no sex in the champagne room, there’s no slacking over at Mugen’s place either.
Mugen takes their package a step further by adding induction and exhaust upgrades that they hope will improve the hatch’s current stats of 38mpg and 117g/km CO2. They have also added front and rear five-stage adjustable dampers, bigger brakes, and lightweight 17in forged Mugen GP alloys. Aesthetically, the CRZ will get Mugen-spec front and rear bumpers, a large rear wing, and side skirts. The company has also promised a "large reduction in overall weight."
The Honda CRZ Mugen will make its first grand appearance at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. As of right now, it is just a one-off prototype, but Mugen says they are willing to offer it in a limited number production if there is enough interest. At the very least, we should be able to order some of the parts used as aftermarket supplies.

1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre Review, and Photo Gallery

1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre

1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre  Review:
There’s something about doing business with a small manufacturer that many find very appealing. It could be the careful attention the staff pays to the customer or the little competition that exists to rival the products, but the either way, the business is always there for the small fish in a big pond that has big dreams. Our latest catch is Six Ten Coach Builders.
1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre
Six Ten Coachbuilders began work in the 1990s when Jim Crabtree, General Manager, bought the original molds and design rights for the Spirit model. The company still builds a few units of the Spirit a year, but they have spent most of their time building Cobras. Their mission is to build “exclusive, high quality, mass-appealing, neo-classic styled cars and kit cars that provide the feeling of proud ownership at good value.”
Their most recent build is the new Six Ten Sabre built off of a Ford Mustang GT Convertible (from 1994 to 2012), even though it’s hard to tell from looking at the vehicle.
1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre
It is inspired by the Morgan and MG Classis design with a clear focus in adding luxury and style befitting of a vehicle worth much more than the $39,000 to $129,000 price tag trailing behind the Sabre. With the help of Ford, who donated all of the major auto parts, Six Ten has created a vehicle that can play its part perfectly in the automotive world. It’s kind of like having the beauty of a ring girl while delivering the punch of the boxer.

Competition

1994-2012 Six Ten Sabre
Six Ten has created a unique model for the market and are bold enough to say that it can compete against models like the 2011 Morgan Aero Super Sport. The Morgan Aero is powered by a 4.8L delivering 367 HP and 370 lb-ft torque. This allows the Morgan to get from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. A Six Ten Sabre built off a 2011 Mustang Shelby GT500 will get the customer a 5.4L engine delivering 540 HP and 512 of torque with a 0-60mph time of 4.3 seconds. That sounds great all by itself, but it gets better. The Sabre will only cost anywhere from $39,000-$129,00 whereas the Aero starts off at $185,000. That little fact sweetens the pot that much more.

Exterior and Interior

The exterior of the Sabre doesn’t exactly melt into the background with its swooping lines and voluptuous fenders. It is built three feet shorter than the Six Ten Spirit and adds intricately shaped back lights and a hint of sportiness that aid in bringing out the best in the vehicle. Exterior color options are the final touch and the choices are endless.

Functionality isn’t lost in the sea of luxury as the Sabre comes equipped with driver and passenger air bags, air conditioning, cruise control, 20 inch chrome wheels, a dual exhaust, a fully functional backseat, and all-power mechanisms such as top, seat, windows, mirrors, locks, brakes, and steering. A wooden dash package is also available for that extra touch of class.

Engine

The Six Ten Sabre is powered by a Ford V8 fuel injected engine producing anywhere from 215 HP to 550 HP and comes equipped with an automatic overdrive. This transformation doesn’t leave out the environmental aspect as the Sabre has been finished to meet all the emission requirements in all US states.

Pricing

The Six Ten Sabre is now available at a starting price of $39,000. That price can shoot up from there to $129,000, and everything in between, depending on the options chosen for the vehicle. Once ordered, the Sabre can take anywhere from six to eight weeks for delivery. Another bonus for the Sabre is that, since Ford donated all of the major auto parts, all Sabre models can be serviced at any Ford dealership.

If you already have your own donor car, the Sabre is also available in kit form for the bargain price of $10,900. The kit takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks for delivery.
